Another spot, another Café Montag

Den här gången ägde Café Montag rum i Garaget, ett stadsbibliotek i Sofielund som har ett underbart rum med stor potential. Om vi fortsätter här vet vi inte än.

Suseteranian Vibes

Rookie-bandet Suseteranian Vibes inledde kvällens Café Montag med sina reggaelåtar om livet på ett anspråkslöst sätt. Trots att de fem kvinnorna bara hade spelat sina instrument i några år påminde de oss om att musik också ska vara tillgänglig och rolig.

Melodies and bicycles

Melodies and bicycles är ett tillfälligt namn och bandet har bara spelat tillsammans i några månader. Detta var deras första spelning. Linas vackra röst och deras låtar om kärlek visar stor potential. Flera medlemmar i bandet saknades men soundet var intakt. De borde verkligen fortsätta!Vi ser fram emot hela bandets andra spelning hos oss.

Ned Collette

Fred Grosskopf som startade Café Montag och nu bor i det Berlin introducerade världsartisten - Ned Collette, som han träffat där och tog med som special guest. Mellan låtarna som bestod av lagrar av poetiska texter, en vacker och mångfaldig röst, guitar loops och delays, kryddades Neds uppträdande av spontan humor, så som hur man gör när man plötslig förlorar en fingernagel precis innan en krävande låt med mycket strängplockande.

Fallen Trees

Deras tredje framträdande på Cafe Montag visar att Fallen Trees börjar bli en del av familjen. Deras blandning av ska, blues och folkrock framkallade en energisk, sinnlig och själfull stämning.

Open Mic

Montags gamla hjältar fred Grosskopf och Ryuei Sasaki spelade en melodiös och efterlängtad guitar och cello kombination.

Christian Ekvall återuppstod på montags öppna scen och läste ännu en av sina djupsinniga texter.

Denna gången spred Café Montag sin energi på Tryckeriet, ett varmt och öppet rum i Sofielund.

John StriderJohn Strider, American singer-songwriter från San Francisco, värmde upp publiken med låtar och berättelser. Han sjöng på ett energiskt och dynamiskt sätt, inspirerad av livets broar, av den styrka som krävs av invandrare , och en katt han träffade i Alabama som kanaliserade Elvis.

Stages of BardoStages of Bardo med Mikael Elofsson och Thomas Frisk är en Malmöduo som inte har spelat så länge tillsammans, men deras låtar var mycket gripande. Mikaels fina röst och poetiska texter tillsammans med Thomas skeva gitarrackompanjemang gav uppträdelsen ett uppfriskande och nytt sound.

Brigitta Kontros
Brigitta Kontros visade en trailer från sin dokumentärfilm Cisne Negra som handlar om Naty, en ung Chileansk kvinna som slits mellan sin son, pojkvän och sin önskan att vara oberoende. Före och efter visningen berättade Birgitta mer om filmens bakgrund och kontext, och publiken fick ställa frågor och kommentera.

Alaino Fall och Fami

Alaino Fall och Fami spelade upplyftande raggaelåtar med rytmer skapade av en Cajón, en slags låda som man sitter på och använder som trumma. Stämningsfull och roligt!

DJ Torquescope gav sitt bästa mellan de olika framträdandena, medan Emilia Normans film Strilat visade ljus och dans i en mycket vacker symbios. Och publiken var inbjuden att tillsammans skapa en målning.

Sum-up

The evening began with some modern folk songs by John Strider, followed by the Malmo band Stages of Bardo, who shared with us beautiful and haunting songs. Birgitta Kontros showed a trailer to her film Cisne Negra about Chilean woman struggling between her son, boyfriend and independence. This was followed by Alaino Fall and Fami, a fun and catchy reggae duo. Finally, the performance group Fjärilarna gave us an amazing show magical fire.

Det var den sista gången vi körde Cafe Montag på Pizzeria Rex. Men stämmningen var bra som altid, och energin från publiken och artister var fräsk och edgy.

James BrewsterJames tog oss med på en resa genom ljudlanskap skapade av insamlade ljud, ett munspel, improviserade rytmer från en kista, och hans mun. Dessutom tog han oss genom en resande dikt som flöt över musiken.

Stefan BorglyckeStefan Borglycke lyckades fånga publiken i ett spindelnät av roliga historier om allt från hans tid hos Biltema till finsk humor till död och efterlivet i Prag. En berättare-performer som bokstavligt talat hade tiotals berättelser att väja från, och vars fantasi var gränslös.

Tim SchmidtTim Schmidt frambringade sin tolkning av amerikansk folkmusik i rummet med fantastisk fingerpicking på gitarr, medan hans unika, melodiska och vågformiga röst gav showen en speciell och nästan sökande stämmning.

Rädda VargenRädda Vargen, ett syskonpar, sjöng stämmningsfulla låtar med punkinflytande och miljöpolitiska texter som handlade om Moder Jord och maktmissbruk.

MoaMoa från bandet "Minttu" som kommer ifrån Stockholm upträdde för första gången utan sin partner, men hon fyllde upp scenen väldigt väl själv! Hon sjöng vackra texter unplugged med en ännu vackrare röst.

Henrik Holgersson
Henrik Holgersson anser att han har levt i den arabiska världen i ett tidigare liv, och blev reinkarnerad som svensk. Desvärre blev hans fantastiska uppträdande avbrutet på grund av tiden.

Det var vårt sista Café Montag på Rex. Vi har bra minnen men ser fram emot ännu bättre tiden!!!

And last but not least....

James Brewster took us on a journey through a sound landscape including spoken word, voice, rhythms and outlandish melodies. This was followed by a storytelling performance by Stefan Borglycke who shared with us tales from Biltema and afterlife in Prague. Tim Schmidt wooed us with his undulating voice and fingerpicking in the American folk tradition. Then Rädda Vargen heated up the stage with their environmentally political songs. Moa from the band Mintu from Stockholm gave us a wonderful unplugged performance. Finally, Henrik Holgorsson enchanted us with his Arabic music and past life remembrances.

Ny säsong, ny glöd, nya medlemmar och gamla härliga ansikten dök upp på Café Montag.

Mörkret låg tätt, kylan var isande, men inne på Rex var det varmt och mysigt. Det blev en glädjefest med musik, öl och dans. På scen kunde vi uppleva allt från spännande rytmer från Afrika till tjejrock på hög nivå.
Shoshana Iten

Shoshana värmde upp kvällen med att berätta om Sababas Project, en kollaboration mellan visuella konstnärer och musiker från Ghana och Danmark. Genom videos och musik fick vi en smak av Nordghana och projektets motto ´the power of art in social change.

Patrik HögbergHan gjorde själ för sitt ryckte som vår mest älskade och hatade trubadur. Med provocerande texter om bland annat Anders Breiviks skjutande skakade han om publiken och lämnade ingen oberörd.

Hur som helst

Entusiasmen rullade över lokalen när Hur som helst entrade scenen! Efter en rivande start blev de argt avbrutna av sömniga grannar. Trots allt behöll de allt jämnt färgen och fortsatte med bravur! Tjejrock på hög nivå!

King Ayisoba

Den fantastiske, högljudda och intensiva kologospelande musikern direkt från norra Ghana bjöd på nått som vi bleka nordbor aldrig hört förr! Han trotsade den nordiska kylan och rev av värsta partyt med hjälp av kompisen och musikern Abalungo. Detta urartade snart i dans och gamman. Det kändes soligt inomhus!

John Hanson och Gabriel Hermansson

Ett trubadurpar som bott ihop i åtta år! De spelade ärlig och briljant ballad/poetry på skånska som fångade äkta känslor och lidelse ur vardagen. Gabriel spelade briljant på sin Oud och sin Bouzouki medan John sjöng vackert.

In short....A new season, new glow, new members and seasoned wonderful faces were welcomed at this Café Montag. It was a cozy evening in the basement filled with heart-throbbing music, beer and dance. The evening was started off by Shoshana Iten who presented the Sababas Project, a collaboration between Danish and Ghanaian musicians and visual artists, and showed some of its video works. The Cafe Montag's most loved and hated troubador, Patrick Högberg, took to the stage and provoked us with videos and lyrics. John Hanson and Gabriel Hermansson, a troubador duo, continued the night with honest ballads and poetry on their Oud and Bouzouki, enveloping us in familiar bittersweet emotions. Then the stage was taken over by the enthusiastic girl rock band Hur som helst, who started to shake down the house when the show had to be cut short due to groggy neighbors. Despite the risk for being shut down, the night continued with the amazing and intense kologo-playing King Ayisoba from northern Ghana, who along with his support Abalungo, allowed the sun to shine in the dark basement, and brought everyone to their feet to shake their booties. Last but not least, DJ Albin provided the evening with chill background music. Thanks to all who came and made this night fantastic!!!!

This Montag we only had musical acts booked so we attempted to balance that by having video and light installations in between the acts instead of a dj, this was created by Anna Virta and Anna Moberg.
I think everyone was taken by surprise when a brand new constellation of two talented musicians-Jole Mari- opened on excellent drums, trombone and singing. We will probably hear more of them..!
After a break Erik Jeor entered the stage with his guitar. He is an artist and musician from Stockholm who normally performs along with his band Balroynigress but tonight exclusively acoustic with intimate lyrics... After that already legendary The Nykels blew our minds with notes from Småland and Burkina Faso and other places... Amazing!!
The next band seemed to be lost on the road but found us just in time to sing us some fine harmonies and also some upset macho ballads about stolen women and other things... Roadkills and Rainbows! A lot of hats were exchanged during the performance, for unknown reasons...;-)
That could have been a full night but after some consideration Christian Ekvall got up and shared with us a difficult memory about when his bicycle was disrespected by some kids in school... Wish they were around to witness how the memory of their mean behavior was turned into art... That's how it goes...
Yes, and then the stage, now open beyond control, was entered one last time by Fia Ingemann who shared a song still under construction which was very nice and welcome back again when it is finished!

One of the most eclectic Montags ever, with live drawing, a free improv quartet, a Skype lecture, poetry and a film screening. Tonight's proceedings opened with a fascinating lecture on 'Virtues and Vices on the Tree of Life' by Duncan Fleming, live from his study in Bristol via the magic of Skype, and projected on the wall of the Rex basement. At the end the laptop was taken around the room so that Duncan could be introduced to his audience via the webcam. Next up was Anna Virta who introduced her latest project and showed the resulting short film. The film had been made in Malmö but was an international project together with visiting artists. Anna's talk about making the film provided insights into the joys and challenges of the collaborative process. Focus then shifted from the projection wall to the stage, where Halster's incredible array of instruments and sound making devices had been on waiting all evening. When they finally took to the stage and brought life to this array of objects, the band proved why they are one of the finest free improvisation groups in the country. This was their second performance at Café Montag, rapturously received, and tonight the core trio were augmented by Martin Holm. The audience's gaze was then once again redirected towards the wall, where Sarah Janes, proprietor of Quality Portaits had set up her easel. Tonight's subjects were Montag favourites White Trash Family, and Sarah had begun drawing them upstairs at the beginning of the evening. The portraits were then finished live in the basement while the band performed two acoustic songs with typically energy and verve. Back on stage, Tobias Erehed gripped the crowd from the get-go, alternating between poetry and songs with an seam of dry, laconic wit running through both elements of the performance. The intimate, focused atmosphere was maintained for the final act, as Albin Balthasar took up the poetic mantle with aplomb, combining wit and wordplay with an irresistable energy. It was then left to the evening's DJs, Toxic Talkers to round of the night in in style.

James Brewster opened proceedings with a set of dense live sound manipulations, before played quirky sailor songsSanna from Gothenburg. Then Lina Pihl played some intimate acoustic numbers accompanied by Eric Högström on cello and Sanna Lindskog piano and glockenspiel. Then it was time for a visual contribution to the evening's program, in the shape of 'STORM', a short film produced in Malmö over the preceding few weeks by a dedicated team including Anna Virta and Anna Johansson. After the film Matti Nilsson and Nina Knutsson took to the stage, performing a spellbinding set of melancholy guitars and beautiful harmonies. The night was closed by the legendary Patrick Högberg, on great form as ever performing songs including the classic 'Milano'.

The season premiere of Café Montag 2011 came to be an amazing night, with such a relaxed and anticipative atmosphere that we always hope for. Thank you audience and thank you artists!

Dj for the night was Albin Johansson, and he played an important role creating the mood we mentioned above.

First up on stage was the technical freak and great soundscaper James Brewster, who created dreamy, intricate sounds, beginning with recorded steps in the snow.

Then Deborah Dinauta entered. A singer and songwriter originally from Italy, performing two of her songs. This was the first time ever she played guitar on stage. Promising.

The Balladeer il Absurdo, Patrik Högberg made us all laugh and think with his rough and well-carpented songs, with titles such as Oidipus 2000.

After a short break we were back with a poetry performance by Sussanne Olvéus. About light syrup and white snow a sun rising and steps sticking.

Blues man Albin Roslund followed. With great guitar picking and deep blue vocals. He ended his set with a chearful sing-a-long about a duck.

Next up was an experimental artist from Iceland named Örn. He started singing. Then he started again. And again. Not coming further than the first word. After 20 minutes and a lot of laughing from the audience he had come to the third word, creating the sentence ”I… want… to…”. Just as the atmosphere was getting a bit too tensed, he finished his performance.

After that a brave young man seized the opportunity and jumped on to the open stage, or carpet if you prefer. Matti Nilsson tied the night together with two new songs of his. Thin-skinned and exquisite with personal lyrics in Swedish and a distinguishing falsetto.

13th December 2010 - Season Finale

Celebrating our season finale in classy Cafe Montag style with DJ Nybryggd on the decks, Californian native singer/songwriter David Pedroza, poetry by Alexandra Palmquist translated into sign language and supported by improvised instrumental sounds, Aron Hallberg the charismatic juggler, Dodge Grayscale and acoustic country, Thomas and band with freshly composed pop, Rex Jam and a round of energetic psychedelic rock, and last but not least laser-disco David leading us on the dance floor with 90's hiphop classics. Wow, thank you all dear performers and supporters for making it yet another great event and a special season finale!! Cafe Montag will now take a holiday break, to be continued in mid January 2011. Until then, fare thee well Blue Mondays, and happy holidays!

Another dark Monday night to be lit up by brilliant performers and audience at Café Montag! A devoted crowd made it to Pizzeria Rex despite the snow and got to see some fantastic artists. DJ for the night was Mr Rex, thank you for the music!

Our first artists were Küchen & Müntzing Scheibenhonig (which apparently means sliced honey in german) who set up something that looked like an Arabic market and showed us some improvisation with a saxophone, flexichord, percussion, plates, electric toothbrushes... Brilliant sound show and beautiful setup!

Next on stage was Fjällräv (Marlin and Karin) who played guitar, xylophone and the harp, in classic heartbroken/hopeful pop tunes. Sweet! Songs with a lot of youth spirit and emotions, that can be downloaded here.

Then we were entertained by Martin Härle, a young singer-songwriter with a guitar and harmonica who played both covers (Lars Winnerbäck with a skånish accent!) and some own material. Thanks!

Tonight we were also happy to present Ugo Mellone, Italian biologist and nature photographer. He started out by showing a gorgeous slide show of ten years of photographing the world, and then held a lecture on migratory birds. A great example of how you can be a part of Café Montag by just sharing what you know! We were all very entertained and learned a lot about birds’ behaviour.

Rounding of the evening, our last performer was Lotta Allard, a familiar face and always appreciated singer-songwriter at the Café Montag stage. Smooth finish!

Thank you all for coming and making this evening so cosy and intimate. Don’t miss out on the next Café Montag (13^th of December), it’s the season finale and we have so far no idea of what is going to be on stage but it will be legendary!

What an amazing night this was! once again we were totally packed out and "standing room only" in our new home at Pub Rex, but with good reason, such a stellar line-up only deserves a stellar-sized crowd. Holding down the wheels of steel for the evening, DJ Do The Math sailed us through the uncharted waters of his impressive collection of wax, with a "anything goes" style that genre-stepped like a musical time machine!

The night kicked off with a set of well-selected covers by Martin Lundblad, complimenting Damien Jurado, Neil Young and Tom Petty classics with his own twist and excellent voice. Next up the the newly-re-located "stage", Albin Balthasar entertained us with some witty and maybe slightly self deprecating poetry (what true comic doesn't have at least a little bone to pick with themselves?), leading way to some smooth piano-crooning on Rex's house spinnet from walk-in performer Andreas. We were all bracing ourselves for returning friends White Trash Family, who delivered nothing short of a spectacle with their well-tuned blend of traditional Russian gypsy-folk and punk grit, enough so that they managed to whip the crowd into a FRENZY of dancing and clapping! A tough act to follow, but "pshaw!" said Malmö's best-kept secret, The Nykels, who took us all under their rock 'n' roll spell with an amazing set of far-out sounds. channeling such disparate sounds as Half Japanese, The Modern Lovers, Teenage Jesus & The Jerks & West African Highlife music in one set is no easy feat, but they pulled it off with effortless ease and one GIANT microphone! closing out another perfect night of monday blues-curing curiosities, il maestro Patrick Högberg once again slayed us with a set of heart-filled love songs and important historical data from his ever-growing songbook.

So, the 18th of October we were eager to arrange a new session of Café Montag at Pizzeria Rex. With some new team members, there was a lot of excitement in the air and the basement was so crowded!
First on stage was Amanda and Julia, who presented poems accompanied by the accordion and some dancing. Sweet! Shortly afterwards, we got some Specialundervisning, or sexual education, by Ylvar and Sanna. Now we know the true meaning of the lyrics by Tommy Nilsson, and how they can guide us through our encounters with the opposite sex! Then, Nanna Nore presented some bits of her show Det helande brustna. A lot of dresses, some violin, knitting, and how we break apart and get picked up again. After Nanna, it was time for our team member James Brewster to experiment with sounds and show us what a comb and a plant leaf sounds like when you pull it through your computer. Then Lotta Allard, our beloved singer/songwriter gave us some high class entertainment before it was time for Patrik Högberg, who played some songs on the guitar before he was interrupted (!) by the clown Anders Carlsson, who introduced us to a project that Institutet is working on at the moment, which will be performed in spring. The evening was nicely rounded of by the trio Old Lost John, which consists of Johan Malmberg playing the violin, Göran Abelli on the trombone and Tomas Sundberg on the guitar. Thank you all so much for coming, performing, cheering and sharing this with us! Hope to see you at next Café Montag again!

A fabulous start into the new season located in the cozy basement of REX. On stage in the order of appearance: sporty a Capella with Carl Boutard, Thomas as Early Me in solo on the piano, poetry with Alexandra Palmquist, British/American experimental combo Denied by Character, a devoted reflexion on the negative side effects of alcohol by Christer and David, jazzy pop with Kristin Hedberg, house baladeer Patrik Högberg with songs of love and death, quality folk with Old Lost John, Norlansk power balads with The Norlander, and last but not least Kristin and Andreas on the vinyl decks. Tonight everybody was kung fu fighting as we celebrated our season finale with a bodacious set of performances: Sara Thuresson with piano pop, the White Trash Family and swedish-russian punk folk polka, Fredrik Agvard and friends with accoustic guitar, det er bra det du sager Mr. Perfect and Voks from Copenhagen with electronic mayhem and installation art by Ea Borre, the Hard Time Band with Malmo's finest bluegrass, il maestro Patrik Högberg, Lotta Allard and band, and last but not least Sami and Erik with an session of psychedelic folk. Big thanks to everybody who performed, visited and helped to make things possible, not only tonight, but throughout the season, in particular Matthias from Kong, Claudia and Studieframjandet, Sofia and Folkuniversitetet!!!!

Cafe Montag is now officially on summer break, off to enjoy the long awaited sun. Stay tuned, to be continued, peace, love, hugs and fare thee well... ;-)

We welcomed two special guests who had come all the way from Dublin, Ireland before Hippiekollektivet Hipphipphipp would stage their interactive version of Fuer immer Punk!. 18 year old Hanna stepped up spontanioulsy impressing with her own songs on guitar and piano celebrating her father's birthday who was with us in the audience. Patrik Högberg taught us some historic facts that made this day so extra special and Vera Renella completed the show with an improvised acapella session. Sláinte! Only two more Mondays ...

We got so much positive feed back of both the performances and the audience this evening, thank you everyone! What happened was that Peter Nielsen did his premiere as a singer song writer very exclusively and successfully this Monday night. After that we got acquainted with the strange instrument hammer harp, or Dulcimer, played by Vera Renella, who will come back with her band The Offering Band soon. Then we got a performance by Sergio aka Guru Manioca for the second time at Café Montag, a powerful and precise one with dance, rhythm and flutes inspired by Brazilian indian music. Does a tree that falls in the forest when no one is there still make a sound? No one had time to think of that when the Fallen Trees started rocking and grooving like we never heard before, with banjo, mandolin, base, cajun drum and great voices. They said this was also a premiere but I wonder. Patrik Högberg's weekly was in honour of Christoph Lambert, who's birthday it was, and all the songs he played were from the movie The Highlander, and translated from Gaellic. Didn't know there even is a word for colostomy-bag in Gaellic. John Ax had come in from Stockholm to play a great gig together with his friend Mackan who played accoustic base. Those of you who where at Café Montag's first night at Kong know that John Ax plays the blues in a very delicate and unique way. We still had time to squeeze in Pelle and his guitar in the end, but we will see more of him on Monday... This night was hosted by Andreas who multitasked with sound and DJ -ing and Linnéa, who multitasked as everything else, as Fred and James had been relieved of their tasks this night, but will be back with new tricks on Monday...

Who would have thought that this Monday night would end up in a wild bash with everybody dancing to DJ Michael Paul Hilario spinning the classic Dr. Alban?! First performer was singer-songwriter Drew Taylor from Canada with songs of his own and a very special prayer. Thereafter The Poet Bastards from Copenhagen with two great poetry sessions shaking up the somewhat immobilized world of political correctness. Connected via a live video conference from Johnson's Corner truck stop in Loveland, Colorado, USA, Alex Sharp Cole released his anthem song Möllan Town. Hannah and Kristin with a beautiful mix on guitar, accordion, violin and mini-synth, and Patrik Högberg with a special in remembrance of Idus Martiae, the murder of Gaius Julius Caesar. Thank you all, this was tremendously great!

PS: Alex would like to perform his song at the Möllevangsfestivalen 2010, please help to bring him home!

Celebrating international women's day on an all seats are taken night with DJ Thomas Eklundh relaxing us with a fine selection of chill out tunes, experimental guitar trio HALStER together with James Brewster, the joyful sounding Martha Talk To Me band, the master of irony Patrik Högberg, spontaneous surprise guest Erikka Adeline Chapman with poetry and a Capella singing, Sara Thuresson improvising on the we-need-someone-to-tune-this-! piano, the warm embracing sounds of Lou Dolubu, Daniel Goody's under water rubik's cube training, and last but not least the fantastic Lotta Allard. Another unexpected surprising event, tonight with a very international audience and a group of couchsurfers from all over the world: on the decks DJ Oh'No playing finest vinyl soul, James Brewster with an experimental sound performance including coins, bells and a comb, Höstdemon with an ultra extreme snow melting spinning outdoor fire acrobatics show, followed by the soothing warm loving sound of the Lou Dolubu Band, the book corner with PH and three educational songs to teach them foreigners some Swedish, and last but not least incredible Lotta Allard with two songs of her own. A remarkable marathon night with one act better than the other: DJ Peter Henning on the decks, "walk in" performer Lotta Allard with amazing songs of her own, Anders Mattson with a demonstration of live recorded British railway locomotives from the late 1920s, Claus Haxholm and Kristian Poulson from Copenhagen with an intense experimental guitar session, the wonderful Sara Thuresson sounding absolutely in tune on a slightly detuned piano, Freigeist Anders Carlsson from Institutet with some love songs a la Bonnie Prince Billy, the great Thomas with yet another superb session, PH with songs from the old and new West, and last but not least Old Lost John on guitar and air trumpet supported by Ida. Wow! So many talented wonderful people, where do they all come from? Thank you all for making this happening!

The final event in the year of 2009, and what a great night it was! We skipped the meditation and enjoyed Peppakakor and DJ Per instead. Thereafter Malena with an intro followed by Bildmasknisterna theater group performing the dance-lecture piece Kukmanualen. In between Filip and Dennis with self composed blues rock. Thereafter Linnea Carlsson debuting with songs of her own including the sing along The River. Markus Carlsson presented two texts, one of them about a prisoner who did not want to leave. Malena with a second set, and last but not least Patrik Högberg closing the night with a good laugh. Wonderful! So thank you all for performing, thank you all for coming! A cozy evening with family atmosphere: meditation with instructions on breathing by Thich Nhat Hanh. Surely one of the city's finest guitarist's and member of the glorious Hard Time Band, Canadian born David Johnson with two great sets of his own. Setting the good example we proved in our Rookie Session that this stage is certainly not reserved for professionals, but free and open to anyone. Also back on stage tonight our beloved loyal sailor Malena, bringing along her friend Dan Wångström. Wow, so very pleased to see that more and more sailors are getting wind of the Montag vessel! Continued with our new tradition to start with relaxation and meditation, this time stimulating our aural senses with field recordings from around the globe playing earth's morning song. Inspirational support on the decks by Zuckerzeit aka the legendary Kinski. Back again and both opening and closing tonights stage singer/songwriter Malena presenting amongst others her affection for Bricklane and Copenhagen. Not even the craziest chaos of wires and broken equipment can stop Teneriffa, the Indie band that is so genius that it will never need the correct tuning to sound great. Falska Miner aka Marianna Bengtsson with a wonderful presentation of Den Fjärde Systern, a story about theater and the choice of life over death. Last but not least improvised poetry and sound installation by James Brewster from all the way up on the ladder! What a great night, thank you so much folks!

Outside cold rain in the dark, inside comfortable warmth through joy and happiness, we say: Fare Thee Well Blue Mondays! A guided meditation helped us to relax and get ready for an eventful evening: Performing soothing ambient sounds James Brewster took us to the beaches of Bristol. Our first Walk In of the season, just arriving back from London wonderful Malena with an impressive set on the acoustic guitar. After a little journey with the Transeuraisaexpress from Dalaplan to Yerevan, our Stammgast Patrik Högberg followed by Moody's experimental noise session. All in all an amazing show, thank you all, Good Mondays Ahoi!

Boarding our new vessel down in the harbor at Kulturhuset Kong in honorable fashion with DJ Disko Akademin and Micke on the decks, Erik and Jens playing accordion duets, "you rock!" Frida doing another great acoustical set, Patrik Högberg telling us about Monkeys, Buffalos and Horoscopes, Lovac performing two great songs from their new album, the amazing John Ax sharing his vision of pure music and last but not least Elliot with some new surprise tracks! Wonderful, thank you guys, really great! Holy moly, what a noteworthy finale it was: On the decks Gus from the fabulous Love Bounce dishing out the finest soul grooves available in this our current universe. Then in concert THOMAS - The Dynamic Duo performing dynamic dramatic piano-drum-vocal-singer/songwriter ballads taking us across a superbly extended version of the world's longest bridge. At this point we would have already been fully pleased, but the party continued with spontaneously improvised acts: Elliot gave us some love with Siberian throat singing on the piano. Patrick Högberg shared his experience of having 666 different ways of bad sex. The amazing Men Diamler from England stunned us in duet with the German Sheppard and an incredible folk operetta about a horse who is starved by his owner so that he can use it's ribs as a xylophone. And last not but least Daniel from Steel Island and the Islanders smoothly fading the show with an improvised looper. Wow!!!

So this concludes the first season of Cafe Montag, what a great and joyful series of events it has been! Before we go on holiday though we would like to say thank you to each and everyone who has been involved and contributing to this initiative: all the artists and performers with their great acts, Carlos for showing his trust and letting us use the facilities of Cafe Simpan, Daniel and everybody else helping behind the scenes to make things happen, and of course to you all dear guests for coming by and having a good time!

Second edition of Praise the Word - the theme night dedicated to poetry and literature. Great start with Anders, Kristoffer and My Girl on the open stage each performing beautiful pieces followed by a book appetizer with one of the peaceful warrior's early dreams. Then John Ax showed that he truly is an acoustic man: rock folk blues of the finest, all honest and direct, no need for reverb at all! Thank you all for contributing, thank you all for coming, really enjoyed this one!

Spring is here, the days are longer, yes, Mondays do feel brighter, and the crowd at Cafe Montag seems to get more exclusive: shall we have a summer break?

Frederik Vanek had his debut on the decks showing off jazz rock from Czeckoslovakia and Romania. Newly formed quartet Babujska presented visor à la carte: Swedish folk mixing cello, accordion, violin, cittern and a capella duets with confident affection, generating goosebumps of joy. First edition of Praise the Word - the theme night dedicated to poetry and literature. Fantastic event with Elliot headlining playing two sets of his very own unique and fabulous new age transforming the audience into a state of hypnotized relaxation with a smile. In between: stand-up improv by Kristoffer, poetry from Spain with Aiert and a Sufism piece presented by Cici. What a great mix my friends! So big thank you to all of you performers! And what a great evening it was again!! Martin Tunbjörk spoiled us with a fantastic vinyl mix of lusty Jazz. Staging in a group of five Monogatari fit perfectly into the place performing a variety of songs ranging from thoughtful melancholic intimacy to cheerful happy altogether-now. Near the end they were spontaneously accompanied by the elderly Irish stranger-friend Gerald who to our great delight would not hesitate to give an encore with The Wild Rover having many of us clap and sing along. Nice nice nice! Word seems to have spread fast: yesterday we had our first full house! DJ Do The Math was doing the Monday with style presenting us tracks from "under the blanket". Mind of Malayka played a wonderful acoustic set bringing happiness and joy to everyone (hard to believe this was only their second gig ever!). Elliot gave us a spontaneous teaser for the "Praise The Word" event on the 23rd of March (see events). Hmmm, what exactly is a Blue Monday, I can't remember? So last night we had our first event. And yes, how nice and cozy it got!
